RESTORATION AND HISTORICAL PRESERVATION IS AN ON GOING PROCESS AT BAILEY HOUSE
xxxWailuku – Waikiki & Diamond Head returns to Wailuku. Pace Art Conservation LLC on Oahu recently restored an oil on canvas painted in 1900 by Edward Bailey. The Zadoc W. & Lawrence N. Brown Foundation funded the restoration.
One of Maui’s most prolific and accomplished plein-aire artists of the 19th century, Edward Bailey’s landscape oils are a unique record of the history of Maui.
They continue to raise funds to complete the restoration of the remaining paintings in the collection. Removal of discolored varnish, accumulated grime, retouching, repair of missing paint, and stabilizing detached pigment is some of the restoration work to be completed.
Through this restoration project, the Maui Historical Society will ensure that the cultural roots and history that defines the community will continue to be here for future generations.
The Maui Historical Society was founded in 1951 and is the oldest historical and preservation society on Maui. Funding from foundations assists with capital improvements, collections management, and special programs and projects. For more information call Bailey House Museum at 244-3326.

BAILEY HOUSE RECEIVES FUNDING FOR OFFICE EQUIPMENT & SOFTWARE
Wailuku – The Maui Historical Society received a $9,000 grant from the G.N. Wilcox Trust, Bank of Hawaii, Trustee. These funds will be used to purchase an advanced document system, and a software suite of business applications, which will enhance their operations.
Earlier this year the Maui Historical Society completed an equipment assessment that showed the need for not only current computing hardware, but also the software applications that power productivity.
This new equipment and software will enable them to eliminate the need for printers at each workstation; and allow the printing of brochures and programs in-house, more efficiently accommodate requests from researchers for archival information, and have software compatibility with all office computers.
The Bailey House Museum is an integral part in maintaining, preserving, and sharing the history and heritage of Maui. The Maui Historical Society’s Bailey House Museum, and ultimately, the people of Maui, will greatly benefit from the support of the G.N. Wilcox Trust.
