First make use of all public libraries and archives.
Then come to the office, browse through the finding aids and fill out a Use of Materials Request Form. The fee for processing requests is $5, unless you are a member of MHS (join!). Further research services are available for $60 per hour.
If you really cannot come in person, write and be as specific about your request as possible. Finding Aids are available for purchase, or print them from this website.
When MHS personnel have gathered materials pertinent to your topic, they will telephone you to make an appointment to use the materials.
When you come, you will be asked to place all personal belongings in the office file cabinet. A pencil, paper and gloves will be provided for your use. Typewriters, computers and recorders are allowed for research with staff permission.
Researchers must fill out and sign the following forms:
-
Use of Materials Guidelines
-
Researcher Registration
-
Log of Materials Requested
-
Photo Reproduction Form (only if you are using photos)
Before you leave, the staff will check all materials used against the Log of Materials Requested to insure that everything used is present and in good order.
